Treetop, St. Lucia
When I was planning my short visit to Soufrière to climb Gros Piton, I knew I’d eat most of my meals at my hotel, Green Fig, but I wanted to treat myself to one special dinner out. Looking at Soufrière restaurants, I kept seeing the same restaurant recommended over and over again — Treetop, an Indian-Caribbean fusion spot serving a set 3-course meal. After seeing some pictures of the ridiculous Piton views online, I booked myself a table for sunset on my first full day.
It was $70 + tax + service, so it ended up being STEEP but I recommend it for a special occasion or if you’re rich rich.
The Experience
Treetop Restaurant is located at the Crystals Villa Hotel, high up in the hills accessible via some very windy roads. When you arrive, you’re given a delicious complimentary welcome drink (complimentary meaning it’s included in the $70 you’re paying…). Keep in mind - the subsequent drinks aren’t free.
There’s no drinks menu here! Instead, the bartender will come around and ask what your preferences are and then whip something up according to your tastes. I asked for something really gingery for my second drink. Sadly he forgot about my order, but when I reminded him, he brought over a fantastic gingery mocktail with a metal straw (my favorite drink accessory).
The 3-course set dinner menu changes daily and they bring around a board with the day’s menu on it.
The service was a bit lacking given the hefty price tag. Other tables seemed to have no problem getting food, drinks, or their bill delivered, but I felt like no one seemed to remember I was there. Who knows.
Service aside, the setting is magical. The dining area is open-air, and surrounded by really lush, green rainforest, with views of both Gros Piton and Petit Piton in the distance. The views were the most incredible of anywhere I visited in St. Lucia and a RAINBOW sighting made the whole thing feel even more special. My taxi driver said rainbows are a daily occurrence during rainy season so he was less impressed.
There was also a talented singer that performed throughout most of the night.
The Food
The food was served in three courses — appetizer, main, and dessert. Everything was delicious!
The appetizer course was a trio:
Feta Bruschetta
Spicy Seafood Soup (I think this was my favorite)
Honey Tandoori Chicken
The main course had a lot of variety:
Beef Curry
Cashew Chicken
Indian Street Corn
Rice
Garlic Naan
A dessert platter was also brought out, with the chocolate mousse being the absolute star. I ate it so fast I forgot to take pictures!
Final Thoughts
Would I recommend Treetop? Yes, but only for a special occasion and not a casual dinner. The food is really good and the view of the Pitons, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is unmatched! Plus there were enough carbs for me to carb-load before I hiked Gros Piton the next morning. See my full review of hiking Gros Piton here and check out my travel guide to Soufrière here.
Tip: Make a reservation well in advance (especially for sunset), bring bug spray, and make sure to budget for the taxi since it’s up a steep hill from the center of Soufrière.
